Noise is not merely a nuisance, its effects can be deleterious to human health over a prolonged period. Natural sounds, reports the United Nations Environmental Programme, can offer a variety of benefits, especially when introduced in predominately urban spaces. The latest issue of The Greatest Magazine, it could be argued, takes this concern seriously by devoting its theme to silence. Finally, an escape from noise, respite from the cacophony of modern life in the form of a bound collection of fashion editorials! Of special interest is one single male story featuring quietude’s Tyler Goulden photographed by Mara Corsino and styled by Jess Roberts. Shot in studio and on the streets of Red Hook in Brooklyn, New York this past June, the portraits are a paean to contemplation. Wearing a single-breasted leather blazer and cotton tank top by Eytys, jewelry by Britt Bolton, Tyler (picture) examines a vintage Super 8 camera. The look evokes late Velvet Underground, albeit a film still shorn of sound, wherein the volume is all Tyler’s.
